Irene Hunter Aker, age 105, of Somerset, passed from this life on Friday, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born on Friday, August 27, 1915 in the Sugar Hill Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky. Irene was born during the time of World War I and survived the challenging times of World War II and the “Great Depression”, her stamina and tenacity also helped her to endure the times of two pandemics. She was a strong independent woman of faith that raised her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She enjoyed reading the Bible and had accomplished reading it through its entirety 3 times by the age of 100. She was married to the late Herald Aker on June 17, 1931 who he preceded her in death on January 19, 1988.
