Vana Bernice Hughes, 83, of Somerset passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at her residence .
She was born May 24, 1927 in Colo, Kentucky to the late John Albert and Julie Phelps Ping. She was united in marriage to Wilburn Hughes on February 27, 1943, they enjoyed 65 blessed years together. He preceded her in death on December 19, 2008.
Bernice was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she loved the Lord . She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was a member of the New Life Church of God.
Bernice is survived by her two sons and one daughter; Mike (Vicky) Hughes of Faubush , Danny (Kathy) Hughes of Somerset; Shirley Muse of Somerset; one brother, Charles (Madelyn) Ping of Somerset. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Vince (Ann) Muse, Michele (Eddie) Gaines, Angela (Jason) Burton, Donna Fierce, Mark (Trish) Vito, Doug (Gloria) Vito, Wally Hughes, Scott (Jennifer) Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Kenny Hughes and Kelly Hughes; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Preceding Bernice in death were her parents; husband; a son, Marty Hughes; a daughter, Janet Wood; son-in-law Andy Muse; two brothers, Alfred Ping, Lloyd Ping, and four sisters; Elvie Ridner, Mary Lowery, Delphia Baker and Virginia Tomlinson.
Visitation for Bernice Hughes will be Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 6- 9 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. & Crematory.
A Celebration honoring the life of Bernice will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. & Crematory with Bro. Bob Tomlinson and Bro. Doug Walden officiating.
Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Somerset Undertaking Co. & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
