Thomas Cheney

Thomas Ford “Tommy” Cheney, age 83 of Somerset, passed from this life on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.

He was born on April 17, 1937 in Somerset, son of the late Thomas G.  “T.G” and Vivian Ford Cheney.  Tommy was graduate Ferguson High School class of 1956.  He was married to Mary Lou Johnson on August 12, 1956 in Trenton, Georgia.  Tommy was the former owner of Somerset Electric for over 40 years.  He was also a charter member of the Ferguson Fire Department.  After his retirement he volunteered in helping others in many ways of his beloved community.  He was a member of the Masonic F& AM Lodge 111.  He was of the Baptist Faith and served as Deacon of the Immanuel, Pitman Creek and the Bronston Baptist Churches.  Tommy was a Kind hearted, generous and a devout Christian man and was a faithful witness during his journey of life.  He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Gary Cheney, father and mother-in-law; Charles E. and Anna Johnson, niece; Sherill Neal and a grandchild; Cliff Haynes, brothers in law; Jack, Jerry and Charles Johnson, a sister-in-law; Evelyn Nichols.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife; Mary Lou Johnson Cheney, a daughter; Tammy (David) Mayfield of Ferguson, a brother; Dr. Marcus (Terrill) Cheney of Lexington, Kentucky, three grandchildren; Danny (Debbie) Mayfield, Jason (Lisa) Mayfield, and David S. (Kendra) Mayfield, great- grandchildren; Brandon & Alisha, Caitlin, Savanna Haynes, Kevin, Catrina, Hailie, Taylor, Ashley, Kendall, Jordan, Blakley and Colton, two nieces; Daina (Larry) Grey, Gwenda (Terry) Hulan, two nephews; Guy (
Wendy) Cheney, Mike Rollins and a host of great nieces and nephews.

In adherence the Current Corona Virus guidelines for social distances, precautionary measures will be observed, facial coverings will be required.  Visitation will be from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, November 9, 2020 and from Noon until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory.  The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Mayfield officiating.

Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of Flowers contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Kentucky 42051 or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
