Stephen Phillippi

Stephen "Steve" Phillippi, age 68, of Somerset, departed this life on Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Steve was born on September 1, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Max and Laura Phillippi.

He was an educator and advisor for over 47 years in Graphic Communications; teaching graphic publishing and marketing at the Somerset Technical and Community College, in the Office of Career and Technical Education. He was a student teacher supervisor at Eastern and Western Kentucky Universities. He earned numerous titles in his industry, including the Kentucky Skills USA Kentucky Director, Kentucky Tech Teacher of the Year and Kentucky Skills USA Advisor of the Year. Steve held positions on many boards, including the Kentucky Tech Statewide Marketing, Curriculum and Public Relations Teams. Among many community and state leadership organizations, Steve was a Kentucky Colonel, a Lions Club member, a Kiwanis Club member and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Steve was an active member of St. Mildred's Catholic Church. His church activities included Minister of the Eucharist and Parish Council Member. He was an avid clock collector.

He is survived by his mother, Laura Phillippi Boutwell; his wife of forty-seven years, Mechelle; his daughter, Danielle Nycole Phillippi Sears (and Anthony); his son, MSG Stephen Max Phillippi, DSL (and Lilian); his sister, Sherry (and Dale) Cornell, of Somerset; grandchildren, Alexandrea "Allie" Nycole Sears, Andrea Gabriell "Gabbie" Sears, Sheila Michelle Leon-Calix, Miguel Jesus Phillippi, Jasmine "Jassie" Elizabeth Phillippi and Stephanie "Stephie" Ruth Phillippi; a sister-in-law, Georgie Phillippi; a brother-in-law, Chuck Leitch; a special friend, John Engle; a long-time friend of the family, Briana Randolph; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding Steve in death is his father, Max Phillippi; brothers, Markland Phillippi, Anthony Wayne Phillippi and Michael Edward Phillippi; his sister, Deborah Phillippi Leitch; and his nephew, Jack Milton Hamm.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Steve's funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., in the St. Mildred's Catholic Church.

Father Jay Von Handorff will officiate the funeral mass. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Steve's friends.
