Shirley Groves

Shirley Jean Groves, age 88 of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born on Nov. 25, 1923 in Essex Ontario, Canada to the late Florence Amelia (Sweet) and Lawrence Clarke. Mrs. Groves worked for the United States Postal Service as a part time mail carrier. She loved to draw, paint, crochet, quilt and especially travel. She also loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Groves is survived by three sons, Douglas Roy (and Judith) Groves of Redford, Mich., Steven Michael (and Faith) Groves of Chesapeake, Va., and William Lawrence (and Mary) Groves of Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Sandra Lynn Taylor of Somerset, Barbara Sue (and Garnett) Hampton of Somerset, and Mary F. Groves of Somerset; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel G. Borst of Somerset. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Harold Groves; a daughter, Beverly Ann Babcock; and three grandchildren, Charles Albert Nigh, Christine Nigh, and Loralee Nigh. Visitation for Mrs. Groves will be Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with her funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Mr. George Lee and Mr. Don Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Jewish Hospital Heart & Lung Transplant Center, Louisville, Ky. Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Shirley Jean Groves.
