Rozella Parris

Rozella Sloan Parris, age 100, formerly of Fall Creek community of Wayne County, KY passed from this life to her Eternal home on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Britthaven of Somerset.
She was born on September 10, 1910 in Monticello, KY to the late Charlie Sloan and Zora Barnes Hammonds. She attended school in the Wayne County School System at the Old Fall Creek School. In 1929 she was married to Elbert Parris, whom preceded her in death on May 1, 1980.
Rozella was the oldest member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and was a faithful member and supporter of the church ministry until her failing health prevented her active participation. On September 23, 2010 a celebration of her 100th birthday was given by the staff at Britthaven of Somerset. She was also the oldest surviving descendent of the late Ruben and Laura Hayes Barnes.
Rozella was a kind and gentle woman with a passion and love for children. She loved to garden, fish, cook, and sew and could always be counted on to do whatever she could for the church and her community.
While she was an only child and never had children of her own, she always considered her cousins and neighbors as her children. She took Billy Jay Barnes to be her "Godson" when he was 3 years old and considered him as her own child.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her "Godson", Bill Jay Barnes, along with his siblings and other cousins and friends.
The family of Ms. Rozella Parris wishes to express to the staff of Britthaven of Somerset their sincere appreciation for the professional, personal, and genuine expressions of care and compassion that they gave her during her illness and time with them. Some staff members went over and beyond the call of their profession to personally assist and care for her in the last years. We are forever grateful.
Visitation for Mrs. Parris will be Wednesday, December 22nd at 6:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset. A "Celebration of Life" service will follow at 7:00 pm with Bro. Freddie Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset, KY.
