Roy Dearmon

Sergeant Roy C. Dearmon, 87, served as a Green Beret and a member of the 82nd Air Borne, husband of 20 years to Nancy Jewell Dearmon, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Sgt. Dearmon was born November 19, 1929 in Crossville, TN, son of the late Roy Edward Dearmon and Margaret Louise Todd Dearmon.

Sgt. Dearmon was preceded in death by his first wife Jewell Doris Simpson Dearmon; two daughters, Doris Ann West and Mary Love Feger; and eight siblings, John Dearmon, Evelyn Wilson, James Oliver Dearmon, Willis Dearmon, Donald Allen Dearmon, Lorene Auldridge, George Oscar Dearmon, Margaret Mae Dearmon; and one step grandchild.

Including his wife, Roy is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Dearmon Robinson and Carla Lois Dearmon, both of Frankfort; five grandchildren, April Marie McDonald, Margaret Ann Hunte, Sara Renee Vertrees, James Roy Love, Jamie Lee Robinson; six great grandchildren, Justin Wayne Waldridge, Ann Marie McDonald, Maya Ann Hunte, Emma Jane Hunte, James Carter Love, and Jackson Laine Love; two brothers, Raleigh Dearmon of AZ and Ivan Harold "Tick" (Alberta) Dearmon of OH; three step-sons, William Satterly, Gayle Satterly, and Scotty Satterly; two step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.

Roy served his country as a Sergeant with the U.S. Army Green Beret and in the 82nd Air Borne. Stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, he trained soldiers to become Green Berets at Camp McCall, NC. He served in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam as a Special Forces Platoon leader in 1966-67 and 1969-70 and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He retired from the military in 1973. Following his military service, Roy worked for Lowe's in NC and Frankfort, KY. He built homes in Lawrenceburg and Mercer County and built the church of which he was a member, Heritage Baptist Church now known as Central Baptist Church in Anderson County, KY. Roy received an associate degree in construction technology from Bluegrass Community and Technical at the age of 83.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 20th beginning at 11:00 AM at Central Baptist Church, 1958 Bypass North 127, Lawrenceburg, KY. Pastor Rick Clark and Bro. Larry Franklin will officiate the service. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 19th from 2 - 6 PM at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home and after 10 AM Monday at the church.

Burial with full military honors will follow services on Monday at the Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset, KY beginning at 2:30 PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Roy Love, Jamie Lee Robinson, Justin Waldridge, Bill Debore, Scott McCoun, Michael Satterly, and Russell Satterly.
