Rev. Billy Turner

Rev. Billy Jean Turner, 89, of Somerset, KY., passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at McCreary Health and Rehab in Pine Knot, KY. He was born April 14, 1921 in Jonesboro, AR to the late Rev. John Henry and Ida Mosella Goodrich Turner. He was married to the late Lucille Rose Currie on June 4, 1941 in Covington, TN., who preceded him in death in January of 1998.

Rev. Turner served in WWII European Theater US Army Air Corp. He graduated from Byers Hall High School in Covington, TN. He attended Union University in Jackson, TN with a Bachelor's Degree and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Rev. Turner became a Child of God at First Baptist Church in Alamo, TN in 1930. He was called of God to the Gospel Ministry in 1943 and became a pastor in 1946. Billy was a pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church in Burlison, TN; Fellowship Baptist Church in Quito, TN; Holly Grove Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN; Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Owen County, KY; Dallasburg Baptist Church in Wheatley, KY; Glenview Baptist Church in Memphis, TN; Glen Park Baptist Church in Memphis, TN; High Street Baptist Church in Somerset, KY; First Baptist Church in Morganfield, KY; Zion Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN; First Baptist Church in Stearns, KY, which he retired from and moved back to Somerset, and served as Interium Pastor and preached many revivals. He was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church.

Rev. Turner is survived by his son, Hugh (Nancy) Turner of Somerset, KY and daughter Deborah Jean (Terry) Doyle of Humbolt, TN; grandchildren: Emily Turner of Chicago, IL, Christina (David) Shanks of Somerset, KY, Blake Andrew (Jolie) Felton of Humbolt, TN, Nancy Perry of Humbolt, TN and Jeremy (Amanda)Felton of Humbolt, TN and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doris T. Haynes of Brentwood, TN; brother, Dr. John B. Turner of Springfield TN and special sister-in-law, Jane (Ralph) Murray of Hendersonville, TN.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife and three sister: Louise Lockhart, Maxine Cloud, and Irene Clayton and two brothers: Rev. Guy H. Turner and Rev. Paul Turner.

Visitation for Rev. Turner will be held Saturday, October 16 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory.

A celebration honoring the life of Rev. Billy J. Turner will be held Sunday, October 17 at 2:30pm at Beacon Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John Mark Toby officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post # 38.

Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Beacon Hill Church Mission Programs.
