Myrtle Simpson Blakley-Lewis, daughter of the late Rev. Edward Simpson and Etta Simpson, was born June 4, 1930 in Oneida, Tennessee and departed this life Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton E. Blakley, Sr., her parents, and siblings, Edward Simpson, Edith Burris, Eva Weaver, Elizabeth Tudor and Violet Welch.

She is survived by her current husband of 17 years, Thomas P. Lewis, her three children, Cynthia McMeans Hickerson (Chip) of Nashville, TN, Cathy Blakley Bosson of Castlerock, CO and Alton E. Blakley, Jr. (Lisa) of Somerset, KY. She also leaves five grandchildren, Blakley Neal McMeans, Nashville, TN, Blaire McMeans Murfree (Davis) of Nashville, TN, Cameron Blakley Bosson (Bailey) of San Diego, CA, Alston Elizabeth Blakley, Nashville, TN, Alton E. Blakley, III, Atlanta, GA. The great-grandchildren are Blakley Neal Murfree and Kathryn Blythe Murfree of Nashville, TN.

Mrs. Blakley-Lewis was a past member of First and Farmers Bank Board of Directors, a founding member of The Lake Cumberland Performing Arts and a Fellow of the University of Kentucky. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Somerset and very supportive of the Kentucky Baptist Home for Children. She was a warm and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a Life Master in Bridge and an active golfer.

The family of Myrtle Blakley-Lewis will receive friends at the First Baptist Church from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Friday, July 24, 2015 with the service to follow.

Funeral services for Myrtle Blakley-Lewis will be held at 1:00 pm., Friday, July 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Somerset, KY with Rev. Bob Browning and Rev. Bill Adcock officiating. A private burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or The Lake Cumberland Performing Arts.


Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory is in charge of all arrangements.
