Michael Ledford

Michael Brent Ledford Sr. - “Pop” to friends, “Mike” to many others, “Dad” & “Papa” to those who loved him most - passed away on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 surrounded by a great deal of love and family.

Michael was born on June 4, 1949, to Geraldine and Carl Ledford. He was the 7th of 11 children & considered his siblings to be some of his dearest friends. He graduated from Somerset High School in 1967, and in 1970 enlisted in the United States Air Force. Michael proudly served from 1970-1990 in Charleston, Dover, Okinawa, and New Jersey. After the Air Force, Michael owned a Pepperidge Farm franchise and later retired from the United States Post Office after more than 10 years of service. Michael was a hard worker by nature, but more importantly, he loved hard. Michael loved God, his church, and his church family. Michael looked forward to “visiting the Eagles” every day and shared his stunning photos with anyone who would listen. To view the world through his lens was to see genuine beauty. He treasured his time with the guys at the barn, even though he lost several dimes. He loved a good game of golf and UK basketball - he was always ready with a high-five for a three.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Carl Ledford; mother, Geraldine Ledford; sister, Becky Eversman; brother, Jerry Ledford; nephew, Mark Ledford; and niece, Jamie Ledford. He was also preceded in death by his beloved mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rip and Lucille Vanhook.

Michael is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jenny Ledford. They began dating in 1965 and in those 59 years, they created a beautiful life and family together. He is survived by his three children, Michael B. Ledford Jr. of Somerset, J. David Ledford Sr. of Somerset, and Suzie Ledford of Denver, CO. Michael was so proud of his three children and supported them fiercely through every walk of life. His two grandchildren, Samantha and David Ledford Jr. of Somerset, brought him tremendous joy and pride. While Brothers Dinner won’t quite be the same, Michael is survived by his siblings: Eddie (Jane) Ledford, Sue Rudd, Butch (Judy) Ledford, Judy Jones, Charlie (Linda) Ledford, David (Sharon) Ledford, Steve (Patty) Ledford, and Bo Ledford. Additional survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Somerset, KY, on Friday, May 10, from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Somerset, KY on Saturday, May 11 at 11 am. Entombment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
