Mavis Pierce

Mavis "Jeree' Pierce, age 76, of Nancy, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends.



Jeree was born on March 10, 1940, in Trimble, daughter of the late Ernest and Onnie Ard Simpson. She married Wallace Pierce, in LaFollette, Tennessee, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1959. Jeree was a member of the Nancy High School graduating class of 1959. She loved gardening and canning. She was a dairy farmer. Jeree loved being with her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandson and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Calvary Temple Church of Columbia, and loved her church and church family.



She was a blessing to others and a faithful Prayer Warrior.



Jeree is survived by her husband, Wallace; their daughter, Vickie Hughes, of Nancy; her grandson, Wally (and Latasha) Hughes, of Nancy; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Hughes and Harper Hughes; her brother, Russell Simpson, of Nancy; her sisters, Janice Patterson, of Somerset, and Mary Vella (and Tommy) Thompson, of Lafayette, Indiana; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Simpson, of Nancy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.



Preceding Jeree in death are her parents; her son-in-law, Mike Hughes; her brother, Dwain Simpson; her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Junior Munsey and sister, Leva Tarter; brother-in-law, Doyle Patterson; and her mother and father-in-law, Linville and Lettie Pierce.



Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2016, after 5:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 12:00 noon, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Troy McWhorter officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Sherry Turner. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.



Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
