Lowell Merrick

October 18, 1935 — October 18, 2020

Lowell Wendell Merrick, age 85, of Nancy, Ky went to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on October 18, 2020.  Lowell was born on October 18, 1935 to M.E. and Zella Scrimager Merrick.  He began a career at age 12 as a logger.  Lowell continued his career in the wood industry as a partner in the former Cumberland Wood and Chair Corporation, and later Somerset Wood Products. He continued to work until the age of 80 in this career that he loved. He also enjoyed raising cattle and dearly loved farming. He built a good life with his sweetheart, Doris Stevenson, whom he married on December 24, 1954.  Lowell loved his family and his church, and lived his life as a testament to God. Lowell was proud to serve as a deacon of Okalona Missionary Baptist Church for years, where he also taught Sunday school and went about the Lord’s work in any way that he could to help others.  Lowell loved to see the church grow and flourish, and watch as others came to know Christ. He would often minister to those that he would meet in public. He was most proud of his family, and would always make sure to tell them this each time he caught a moment alone with them.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Rose Stevenson Merrick; his siblings, Bernard (and Adele) Merrick, Thurman (and Betty) Merrick,  Alfreda (and Carl) Hargis, Karen (and Robert Wendell) Brotherton, Norman (and Cindy) Merrick, and a sister-in-law Rita Merrick; his children, Steven (and Carolyn) Merrick, Sharon (and Rodney) Dalton, Stephanie (and Curtis) Woodson, and Sabrina Merrick; his grandchildren,  Tamsen (and Steven) Ryan, Brandon (and Myriam) King, Heather Lawhorn, Nathaniel Merrick (and Hannah Watts), Travis (and Deanna) King, Clinton Woodson, Darrell (and Jaclyn) McGahan, Trevor McGahan (and Cassandra Morrison), Kyle (and Natasha) Woodson; his great-grandchildren, Bailey Ryan, Savannah Ryan, Madison Ryan, Kelsey Lawhorn, Haley King, Jax Lawhorn, Amelia McGahan, Ethaniel Merrick, Henley King, Griffin Woodson; and a great-great-granddaughter, LaurelRose Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents M.E. and Zella Scrimager Merrick, and his brothers Raymond Merrick, and J.C. Merrick.
