Leona Helton

Leona Helton, age 73, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at her residence.

Leona was born on December 17, 1944 in Independence, LA to the late Dallas Carter Sharp and Grace Loyd Sharp. She devoted her life to caring for others. Leona was a very independent person who found ways to adapt to the many challenges she had to overcome. She was loved very much and will be missed by her family and friends. Leona is now rejoicing that she is no longer in pain and reunited with her loved ones that have gone on before her. She was a member of Bronston First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, Frankie Helton of Burnside, a nephew who was like a grandson, Jonathan E. Helton of Burnside; a brother, Dallas Carter Sharp, Jr., of Lavaca, AR; two sisters, Uletha (and Don) Quave of Springfield, LA and Ethel (and Harry) McDonald of Tickfaw, LA; a sister-in-law, Loretta (and Thomas) Foster of Greenwood, IN; a special friend, Judy Gilmore of Bronston; and many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Gerald Lee Helton, whom she married on December 30, 1963 in Burnside and he preceded her on April 5, 2010; two brothers, Charlie Sharp and Andrew Sharp; and two sisters, Ella Grace Ward and Vidalia Sharp.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Garry Quave and Rev. Danny Burdine officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
