Joann Mullen

April 5, 1934 — December 8, 2017

Jo Ann Elizabeth Diehl Mullen peacefully entered eternal life on December 8, 2017, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family members. All who knew Jo Ann will remember her kind, loving, and vivacious personality and her deep love for her friends and family.

Jo Ann was born in Louisville, KY, on April 5, 1934 to Evelyn Smith Diehl and Theodore H. Diehl. There she attended Shawnee High School and married the love of her life, Earl Mullen. In 1958, JoAnn and Earl moved to Science Hill as owners of Hardwick Block and Tile, which they operated until 1995. Jo Ann worked as a bookkeeper for the plant while raising her children, Julie Ann Mullen Randall and Jeffery Lee Mullen. She was a member of Somerset First Presbyterian Church.

Jo Ann lived a meaningful life, full of memorable and fun times. She and Earl enjoyed their weekends on Lake Cumberland with their dear friends at the Somerset Boat Club. She was also an avid University of Louisville basketball fan. Jo Ann loved the ocean and would sit in a chair on the shore and enjoy the water. Later in life, although she battled several health issues, she still enjoyed life by working endless logic games and crossword puzzles and spending time with her devoted and beloved caregivers, Brittany Musgrove and Heather Blankenship.

Jo Ann was a faithful advocate for her family members, serving as a loving and devoted daughter, Mom, Mamaw, and G.G all of her life.

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Earl L.Mullen; parents Evelyn D. and Theodore H. Diehl; great-granddaughter, Kamden Jo Randall; and an infant brother.
