Jewel "Mark" Bowling, age 88, of Keno, passed from this life on Friday, July 15, 2016.

Jewel was born on May 10, 1928, in the Confluence community of Leslie County, son of the late Shafter and Hazel Bowling. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, 1949 - 1952. Jewel retired from civil service at Newark Air Force Station, in Newark, Ohio, in 1983. He loved gardening, bowling, fishing and watching Kentucky basketball. Jewel attended First Baptist Church of Burnside.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Huff Bowling; their sons, Garry (and Josephine) Bowling, of Bronston, and Kevin (and Michele) Bowling, of Watsonville, California; his brother, Ernest Bowling, of Tennessee; his sisters, Mary Josephine Roberts, of Ohio, Lucy Jane (and Otto) Bohlender, of Ohio, Sally Elam, of Lexington, Rose Marie Chandler, of Lexington, Shelia Faye (and Jerry) Fox, of Ohio, and Sharon (and Paul) Harvey, of Booneville; his six grandchildren, Junnadel Bowling, Jonathan Bowling, Joryann (and Jarrod) Barnes, Jeraldine Bowling, Michael (and Laura) Bowling and Stephen Bowling; his two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Vanessa; and his devoted friend, his dog, "Dasha".

Preceding Jewel in death are his parents; his brothers, Henry M. Bowling and Larry E. Bowling; and one sister, Margie Ellen Sizemore.

Services will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 noon, with Bro. Richard Christian officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Paul Harvey, Jeff Fox, Jonathan Bowling, Michael Bowling, Stephen Bowling and Jared Hubbard.

The Bowling Family extends a special 'Thank You" to Tina Hardin, who faithfully served as caregiver to Jewel.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take form of contributions to the choir of the First Baptist Church of Burnside.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
