JD Stringer

August 27, 1935 — December 30, 2023

 

JD Stringer, age 88, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

JD was born on August 27, 1935 in Somerset, KY to the late Chester Stringer and Della Wright Stringer.  He was a member of East Somerset Baptist Church where he was a deacon and trustee, and Sunday school superintendent for over twenty years.  JD was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He retired from General Electric where he was a supervisor for twenty years.  He was known as a businessman and entrepreneur; he was one of the founders of Lake Cumberland Flea Market, he owned several grocery stores including Food Stop in Burnside.  JD enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting in his spare time.  He also enjoyed going to Englewood, FL and living during the winter months.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.  

He is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Mike) Geralds of Somerset; one son, Jon Mark (Tonya) Stringer of Somerset; three grandchildren, Taylor Ross Alexander (Ashley Parrot) of Science Hill, Carly Nicole Geralds of Ladson, S.C. and Kayla Lunsford-Ramirez (Jacob) of Somerset; one sister-in-law, Bridgette Stringer of Port Charlotte, FL; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma Lou Cox Stringer, whom he married on July 14, 1955 in Rossville, GA and she preceded him on February 5, 2022; one brother, Tony Stringer; and one sister, Chestine Daniel.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Darvie Fenison officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
