James Holloway

James Troxal Holloway, age 93, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Monday, May 28, 2018, Memorial Day at Newburgh Health Care in Newburgh, Indiana.



A native of Somerset, Kentucky, Jim was born on September 27, 1924 to the late Samuel Lee Holloway and Mary Ann Elizabeth Troxal Holloway.



He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Newburgh and formerly a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of both Ferguson Baptist Church and Buena Vista Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. Jim faithfully studied his Bible every day and loved to witness to others about his faith. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and listening to Big Band music.



In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Stella Marie Sexton better known to her family and friends as "Teddy". He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph William Holloway.



Jim is survived by his two children, Samuel James Holloway (Betty), Lexington, Kentucky and Jerri Marie Cooper (Lynn) of Newburgh, Indiana. Jim also had six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. His grandchildren include Samuel James Holloway (Margo), Maysville, Ky., Stephanie Lynn Wood (Daren), Maysville, Ky., Julia Rae Meek of Springfield, TN, Brandon Curtis Cooper (Chantel), Newburgh, IN, Angela Marie Bee, Crestwood, KY and Ryan Michael Cooper (Brooke) Lexington, KY.



Being part of a family of Veterans, Jim was a World War II Veteran having fought in Patton's 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge as part of the Normandy invasion. He was a member of the 277th Field Artillery Battalion, 240 Howitzer unit.



A funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, May 31, at the Pulaski Funeral Home, 165 Highway 2227, Somerset, Kentucky 42501.



A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., EST.



The family requests that in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ferguson Baptist Church, 513 Murphy Avenue, Ferguson, KY 42533.
