Hugh New

Hugh Frazier New, age 91, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab Center.

Hugh was born on June 28, 1930 in Eubank, KY., to the late Cornelius Levy and Lola Jane Miller New. He was a member of High Street Baptist Church and worked many years at Western Recorder in Louisville. He loved gardening and cooking.

He is survived by two sons, Cecil (Paula) New of Loveland, OH and Malcolm (Ann) New of Taylorsville, KY; a daughter, Laura Hounchell of Somerset, KY; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Erin) New and Elizabeth (Josh) Foor and three great-granddaughters, Adelaide Rae New, Anabella Avery New, and Gabriella Mae Foor.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lois Smiley New; two brothers, Forrest and Max New and one sister, Naomi Darnell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Amundson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post# 38 Honor Guard.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the High Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
