Hazel McGowan

Hazel Lois McGowan, age 86, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Hazel was born on January 18, 1934 in Naomi, KY to the late Virgil Trimble and Lula Maude Beshears Merrick. She owned and operated Mac’s Drywall with her husband for many years. Hazel enjoyed gardening and vacationing in Okeechobee, Florida.

She is survived by a son, John Barton (and Ida) Wilson of Somerset; two daughters, Rhonda L. Wilson of Science Hill and Tonya Lois (and Andy) Cress of Waynesburg; four sisters, Gladys McCoy of Nicholasville; Edie Campbell of Lexington; Fern Garrett of Otterbein, IN; and Linda Daulton of Lexington, and a hosts of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.D. “Mac” McGowan, two sons, Michael C. Wilson and Jeffrey E. Wilson, three brothers, Joe Merrick, Wade Merrick, and Bruce Merrick, and a son-in-law, Michael Elliott.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating. Entombment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
