Hazel Edwards

Hazel Othello Hines Edwards, born July 1, 1915 at White Lily, KY. to the late James Samuel and Martha Elizabeth Baker Hines, passed away August 10, 2010 in Somerset, KY at the age of 95 from natural causes.

A Class of 1933 graduate of Somerset High School, she attended Cumberland College. On January 5, 1935, Hazel wed John Breckinridge "Johnnie" Edwards at Williamsburg, KY, and became the stepmother of his six children: Elizabeth (and John) Finks, (deceased); Kathleen (and Coy) Rogers of Florence, KY; John William "Bill" (and Margie) Edwards (deceased); James Elvin "Jimmie" (and Kathleen) Edwards of Somerset; Margaret Lucille (and J.C.) Atkinson (deceased); and Robert Lewis "Bob" (and Francis) of Lexington, KY. Five children were born to the union of Johnnie and Hazel; Maurice "Bud" (and Donna) Edwards; Doris Elaine (and Ned) Herald; Lona Marie (and Milton) Beattie; Linda Sue (and Garnett) Tarter; and Kenneth Dale (and Karen) Edwards, all of Somerset, KY.

Hazel worked on the farm alongside her husband and supplied milk, fresh churned butter and eggs for many years to neighbors in her community. Hazel was a member of Malvin Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed working in her gardens, canning, quilting, keeping up with current events, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, 36 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers; Peggy Hines Murphy and Verda Mae Hines Hughes both of Somerset; James Hines of Cincinnati; and Ralph Hines of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie; two brothers, James William Hines and Porter Hines; three sisters Jackie Hines Keeney, Thelma Hines Love, Marie Hines and one step-grandson Jimmie Finks.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Bullock and Rev. Greg Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family of Mrs. Hazel Edwards will receive friends on Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home.

The family requests that in memory of Hazel Edwards, donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
