Gertrude Gill

May 5, 1931 — January 14, 2017

Gertrude Hail Gill, departed this Earth on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Gertrude was born in Mt. Victory, Kentucky on May 5, 1931 to the late Ira and Anna Sears Hail. She is the widow of William "Bill" Gill, who preceded her in death on March 8th of 1985. Gertrude was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky.

Gertrude had a passion for many things during her lifetime. Most notably was spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook and tried her hand at many different dishes. Her children and grandchildren were often the test audience for new recipes. She was a Kentucky "snowbird", who regularly flew south for the winter. She enjoyed her winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and made many wonderful and lasting friendships there. Gertrude loved to garden and each spring, her gardens and porches bloomed with color. After finishing her own gardening, she would often make pots filled with blooms for her children and grandchildren. Gertrude also had a tremendous love of animals. There were no strays at Gertrude's, just animals that passed through and were fed. Her most favorite animal was her cat, affectionately known as Kitty.

In her early years, she was an entrepreneur involved with and co-owner of many different local businesses. In her later years, Gertrude found her true passion and calling as a consummate homemaker.

Gertrude is survived by one son George (Beverly) Gill of Somerset; four daughters, Pat (Stan) Anderson of Dickson, TN, Marilyn (Steve) Vaught, of Somerset, Kim (Bill) Baker of Somerset, and Missy Gill of Lexington; grandchildren Tricia (Kelly) Hendrix of Bowling Green, Stephanie (Brian) Burr of Franklin, TN, Elizabeth Anderson of Nashville, TN, Robbie (Clair) Edwards of Somerset, Josh (April) Edwards of Somerset, Mandy (Tanner) Watkins of Louisville, Ashley Edwards of Lexington, and Jeremy (Victoria) Gill of Somerset. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by three brothers, Darwin Hail, Marvin Hail and Ivan (Sam) Hail.
