Georgia Massey

January 12, 1933 — August 12, 2016

Georgia Ann Massey, age 83, of Russell Springs passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at her residence in Russell County.

Mrs. Massey was born on January 12, 1933 in Russell County to the late Arvel and Erie Meece Thomas. Georgia Ann Thomas Massey was a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her strong character, work ethic, and servant's heart shone daily in her Christian example to those around her. She was an active member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. She served as Past President of the Burnside Women's Club, where she led the town to receive a National Beautification Award. She was named Burnside Woman of the Year. She served on the Gideons International Auxillary Board. She was a long-time supporter of Oneida Baptist Institute Home for Children. She served alongside her husband of 55 years, Dr. William O. Massey, as his nurse and office manager in their Burnside practice for 50 years. She accompanied her husband, daughter, sister, and niece on a medical mission trip to Costa Rica. She managed their family farm, which has been in her family for generations. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, incredible cook and hostess. She loved music, emphasized the importance of it, and always made sure her children were in music lessons. She never missed a game, watching and cheering her Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. She will be deeply missed, but her family and friends rejoice in knowing that she is sharing an eternal life with her husband, parents, family, and friends who have gone before her. As the Psalmist reminds us, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."

She is survived by her son, Dr. William David (and Stephanie) Massey of Windsor; two daughters, Rebecca (and David) Massey Wallis of Roswell, GA and Dr. Deborah Massey of Louisville, KY; one brother, Norris (and Mary Alice) Thomas of Bowling Green; four sisters, Virginia T. Lucas of Russell Springs, Juanita Gosser of Windsor, Geraldine (and Tom) Canada of Dunnville and Mary T. (and Gary) McCormick of El Dorado Hills, CA; two grandchildren, Jackson Lee Wallis of Roswell, GA and Eleanor Georgia Eyre of Louisville, KY; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Berry of Mays Lick, KY and Carolyn Brayfield of Maysville, KY.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William O. Massey who preceded her on November 2, 2011; and one brother, Lowell Thomas.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 14, 2016 after 5:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will he held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Roy and Bro. Ulanda Price officiating. Entombment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset. Mrs. Massey's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Gideon Bible Memorial Program.
