Geneva Taylor

Geneva Godby Whitaker Taylor, age 90, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Seneca Place in Louisville, Kentucky.

Geneva was born on March 5, 1930 in Meece, KY., to the late Marion Strawda Godby and Alice Bell Mounce Godby. Mrs. Taylor was saved at an early age at Buck Creek Baptist Church and has been involved in church work much of her life. She was a Sunday School Teacher and was involved in mission work and singing. Geneva was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University was retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education where she taught school at Ferguson and Shopville Elementary Schools. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Virthel Taylor of Somerset, KY; her children, Connie (and Brian) Bell of Tybee Island, GA; Rita (and Rob) Walters of Lexington; Myron (and Janet) Whitaker of Louisville, KY; Clifton (and Carolyn) Taylor of Somerset; and Lathalia (and Charles) King of Somerset; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Dugger of Cincinnati, OH.

Along with her parents, Marion and Alice Godby, Geneva was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Kenneth Whitaker and he preceded her on June 25, 1966; a daughter, Linda G. Crozier, a grandson, Jeremy Withers; five brothers, Albert, Herbert, Everett, Roy, and Glenn Godby; and four sisters, Hazel Waddle, Norma Reynolds, Crystal Renfrow, and Evelyn Renfrow.

A private service will be held for the immediate family at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. A private burial will follow the service for the immediate family at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to one of the following: Gideon Bible Memorial Fund, Donate Life, Alzheimer’s Foundation, or Alpha1 Foundation.
