Gail Whitaker

November 28, 1939 — June 5, 2022

Nettie Gailya Whitaker, age 82, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Gail was born on November 28, 1939 in Mt. Victory, KY to the late Earl Jones and Beulah Edwards Jones.  She was a member of Southern Heights Christian Church where she was very active while her health permitted.   Gail was deeply rooted in her Christianity and was an excellent example for her children and grandchildren.  She traveled all over the world with Norris and her family during his military career and enjoyed touring ancient Biblical sites in Turkey and enjoyed touring Germany and Belgium.

Gail was very devoted to her family, her husband, children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and attending all of their activities and events.  Her church family was also very important to her.  She was a skilled seamstress, quilter, and an excellent cook like her mother, an extraordinary baker as her pies were especially loved by all.  Gail loved working in her flower garden and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.  Gail was an active Pulaski County Democratic Women’s Club member and worked many elections.

Gail is survived by her loving husband, Norris Whitaker, whom she married on October 2, 1960 at her parents’ home in Somerset; her children, Barry Whitaker (Lin Vaughn) of Somerset; Sheila Ramsey of Lebanon, TN; Laura (Bill) Newell of Somerset and Noreen (Paul) Bekish of Somerset; seven grandchildren, Kylie Ramsey, Elijah Ramsey, Cale Todd, Allie Todd, Ben Whitaker, Noah Bekish and Max Bekish; three brothers, David (Edna) Jones of Somerset, W.N. (Pearlie) Jones of Mt. Victory and Earl Edward (Carlene) Jones, Jr. of Somerset; one sister, Kathy Morgan of Somerset; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Ella) Mize, Jr., C.L. (Aundra) Whitaker and Margie Whitaker; and several nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Freida Mize; one sister-in-law, Kathern Jones; one brother-in-law, Larry Morgan; and one niece, Julie Jones.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Altman officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
