Elizabeth Ebbitt Ellis Long, having reached the age of 100 years, passed away on Tuesday May 28, 2019, at her Somerset residence.
Elizabeth was born on March 5, 1919, in Chicago, daughter of Benjamin C. and Helen G. Cosgrove Ellis. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky. Elizabeth married Dr. Robert F. Long on October 17, 1942, in Fort Benning, Georgia. There were four children born to their union. After the untimely passing of Dr. Long in 1970, Elizabeth became the rock of her family, giving them strength in her diligence.
Elizabeth was active in St. Mildred’s Outreach and was an avid reader. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and a good game of golf. Her greatest love was the love for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hughes (and Paul), of Somerset; her son, David Long (and Renee), of Vero Beach, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Long, of Savannah, Georgia; her son-in-law, Robert Volk; her grandchildren, Jennifer Patterson, Robert Long, III, Mary Snowden, Jim Long, Richard Meyer, Natalie Volk, Megan Brown, Erin Parker and Allen Hughes; her great-grandchildren, Phillip Patterson, Morgan Patterson, Libby Snowden, Evangeline Long, Juliet Long, Franklin Long, Kate Meyer, Thomas Meyer, Mackay Brown, Louisa Brown and Evan Hughes; and her brother-in-law, George Bernard Perraut.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Robert F. Long; her son, Dr. Robert Long, Jr.; her daughter, Lynn Volk; her brother, John Ellis; and her sister, Charlesetta Perraut.
Visitation for Elizabeth Long will be Sunday, June 2, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at St. Mildred’s Church, in Somerset.
Funeral Mass for Ms. Long will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Jay VonHandorf officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
