Edward Phelps

Edward L. Phelps, 85, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on December 8, 1925, son of the late Roma and Martha Phelps. He was a farmer and a member of Campground Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and a DAV member. He was a charter member of Scenic Beagle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Foster Phelps of Somerset, whom he married on January 1, 1949 in Ringgold, GA, three children, Michael & (Luann) Phelps of Eubank, Linda & (Cary) Burton of Roswell, NM and Eddie & (Rita) Phelps of Somerset, six grandchildren, Mikey Phelps, Kim Summers, Chris Tomlinson, Jennifer Todd, Jill Luckett and Justin Ramsey, eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Alberta Barron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Martha Elizabeth Phelps, who died in infancy, one sister, Stella Miller and two brothers, Alfred and Kenneth Phelps.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 13, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Thomas officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post #38.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
