Dr. Leonard Harmon, age 88 of Somerset, Kentucky, son of the late Robert and Nannie B. (Trimble) Harmon was born on October 3, 1922 in Pulaski County, Kentucky and departed this life on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at his residence in the presence of his family.

Beside his parents Dr. Harmon was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Halsey Harmon, Lawrence Harmon and Claude Harmon; 2 sisters, Mary Wright and Wanda Laugherty.

Dr. Harmon is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathryn (Epperson) Harmon; 2 daughters, Marlene (and Rev. Stephen) Kinman of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, and Reva (and Cliff) Williams of Somerset, Kentucky; 2 sisters, Elsie Smith of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Ivadean Gibson of Barbourville, Kentucky. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Steve (and Elizabeth) Kinman, Joy (and Tom) Sparks, Lisa Williams Thomas, April (and Kevin) Saylor, Rev. Christopher (and Lee Ann) Williams, Dr. Jill (and Eric) Mitchell and 8 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Bethany, J.T., Joshie, Emily, Wyatt, Clara and Conor.

Dr. Harmon has traveled to all 50 states, 10 different countries and has made six mission trips to Russia, where he gave lectures and instruction in the Word of the Lord. He made his first visit to Russia in 1997 when he was 74 years of age, on his last visit to Russia, he was 80 years of age, and he was invited to give the inaugural commencement address to the first graduating class of the Bible Institute there. By that time the institute had earned it's accreditation.

Dr. Harmon earned his undergraduate and his doctorate from Georgetown College, he also had his teaching certificate which he also received from Georgetown College. He taught school for several years in the Nancy School System and the Falmouth Middle School.

He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, the past Director of Missions for the Crittenden Baptist Association, he also served in that capacity in Wayne County and McCreary County.

Dr. Harmon was a World War II Army Veteran, a devoted man of God and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives, friends and church family to both mourn his passing and celebrate his home going.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Pace, Rev. Stephen Kinman officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family of Dr. Leonard Harmon will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Pulaski Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family of Dr. Leonard Harmon requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to: The Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
