Dorthy Brock

April 1, 1923 — May 15, 2016

Dorthy Ara (Daulton) Brock, a daughter given by the Lord to Chester Bryan and Della (Hudson) Daulton on April 1, 1923 in Nancy, KY made her move to her heavenly home on May 15, 2016 surrounded by her family. Before her death, she always gave thanks and praise to her Lord for blessing her with a long life.

At the young age of twelve Dorthy made the most significant decision of her life by receiving Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She committed to faithfully serve Him all the days of her life, as was evidenced by the hours she spent daily in intercession with God. She prayed fervently for her family, friends and her country. During WW II her husband, Clarence Brock and four of her brothers were serving in the military, with some of them on the front lines of battle. Dorthy told her daughters that she made a covenant to meet with God daily at 4:00 pm to pray for their protection and safety. She did not fail to give God the glory as her prayers were answered by each of them returning home unharmed.

She was an avid and talented musician and singer, talent given to her by God for playing the piano, guitar and harmonica without any formal lessons. She also wrote countless songs and poems for the Lord. She and her daughters, Sue and Connie formed a gospel singing group, The Brock Family Singers, and sang throughout Kentucky and Tennessee for a number of years, singing many of the songs Dorthy had written. Because of her love of music she encouraged all her children and grandchildren to develop their natural musical talent. In later years Dorthy, her daughters and granddaughters formed a new gospel singing group, traveling and singing in churches across Kentucky as well as recording an album. Even though many years have passed her family continues to hear testimonies from those whose lives have been touched by her songs and poems.

In 1941 Dorthy married Clarence Brock who preceded her in death on September 27, 2001. They were blessed with three daughters, Carolyn Sue, Connie and Teresa. She and Clarence knew the importance of raising their children with a strong foundation in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The children witnessed firsthand their commitment to faithfully serve God through their daily actions and words, instilling in them consistently that God's Word was to never be compromised but was always to be the final authority in all things.

Dorthy will continue to live on through the legacy of faith she has left to all of her family and what a legacy it is with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren being born again. Her family will miss her greatly but we do not grieve as those who have no hope knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and we will be reunited with her again!

Dorthy is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Sue Shelton (Jack) of Nancy, KY; Connie Brock Gibson (Bud) and Teresa Brock Cook, both of Somerset, KY; five grandchildren, Mitzi Quinton (Joey), Marla Loveless (Mitch), Kylie Ramirez (Simon) of Somerset, KY; Christi Arndts (Chris) of Nashville, TN; and Joshua Davis (Tracy) of Fort Worth, TX; eleven great-grandchildren, Andrew Beasley, Caleb Holder, Zach Holder, Sidney Loveless, Bailee Loveless, Mackenzie Stogsdill, Alex Martinez, Antonio Martinez, Natalia Martinez, Preston Davis and Hunter Brill, three great-great granddaughters, Fiona Quinn Beasley, Aralynn Faith Stogsdill, and Scarlett Sophia Kay Holder, one sister, Lois Sharp of Tucson, AZ; and her "best buddy" Angela LeTourneau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Brock, her mother and father, Chester and Della Daulton, brothers Robert, Edward, Ezra, Harold, Rudolph, Hollis and Boyd Daulton, and one sister, Edna Mae Tucker, and Teresa's husband, Jim Cook.
