Dorothy Davidson

Dorothy Kate “Dotty” Berry Davidson, 90, of Somerset, wife of the late Oscar Davidson, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center (Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset) from complications of a battle with cancer.

Dotty was born in Franklin, North Carolina, on November 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Charles and Flora Newport Berry of Booneville, Kentucky. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Russell) Gabbard of Lexington; two loving children Bart (Debbie) Davidson of Richmond, and Lavaun (Tim) Zimmerman of Somerset; three grandchildren, Mary Beth (Nathan) Rawls of Petal, Mississippi, Luke (Lola) Davidson of Ashland, Massachusetts, and Laura Leigh (Andy) Bates of Louisville; and five great grandchildren, Theo and Alan Davidson, Alexandria Grace Rawls, and Charlotte and Walker Bates.  She also is survived by many nephews and nieces. Dotty was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Dotty graduated from Owsley County High School (’49) and Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College (’53, now EKU). Dotty and Oscar were married in Danforth Chapel at Berea College on July 25, 1953, and settled in Lexington, until Oscar was transferred to Somerset in 1960.

Dotty was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church in Somerset.  She served as a substitute teacher in the Somerset School District for over 35 years. One of her greatest joys outside of her family was to have been involved in eight different churches during her life, where she made many long lasting friendships.

Dotty’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very blessed with the boundless and undying love she constantly bestowed on them. They will greatly miss their “Grandmother” and “GrandDotty”.

Funeral arrangements for Dotty Davidson are with Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  There will be no formal funeral service, but a graveside service for family and friends will be held at Lakeside Memorial Gardens (4790 W. Ky 80, Somerset) on Thursday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m.
