Doris New

Doris Jean New, age 83 of Somerset, passed away from this life Wednesday, May 23, 2018. She was born August 6, 1934 in Rabbit Town, KY, daughter of the late Fred and Odetta Harris Padgett. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Owen New; and a daughter, Shelia Catherine. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her sons, Mike (and Lynn) Padgett of Lafayette, LA, and Terry Blake New of Somerset, KY; daughters, Mitzi Jean Arthur of Shopville, KY, Elizabeth Jane New of Somerset, KY and Jennifer (and Wade) Mashburn of Lincolnton, NC; one sister, Betty Tarter of Nancy, KY; grandchildren, Josh and Jordan Arthur and Stephanie Padgett Bowman, and their children
Doris was a full time mom, SHe believed that children should be taught manners and be respectful of others. She called it tough love. She would make you go and pick out your own switch, and it better be a good one. She would scold you one second, but hug you and tell you she loved you in the next second. She said " Always keep that little kid always alive inside your heart." She displayed this in her life many times. She was a member of the Duke Memorial Church, and loved being with the young adults. Children made her smile and energized her soul. She was a mother who would protect her children. Mother was strong willed and she fought to hold on to life until the very last battle. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and she leaves a host of family and friends who will mourn her passing.
A funeral service will be held for Doris Jean New at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Doris Jean New will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29th, 2018, and from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30th until time for services.
