Denney Franklin

December 4, 1932 — July 23, 2016

Denney "Bobby" Franklin, age 83, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab in Somerset. Denney was born in Dunham, KY on December 4, 1932 to the late Martin W. Franklin and Anna Florence Franklin. He was united in marriage to Barbara June Sadler on July 20, 1957 in Somerset. She passed away in January of 2012. From this union of marriage was born one daughter, Lisa Franklin Black.

Denney was a member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church. He served our country proudly in both the United States Air Force and the United States Army. Denney was a retired Funeral Director and Embalmer and managed Nancy Funeral Home. He loved to listen to Southern Gospel Music and go to the National Quartet Conventions. He also sang in a quartet and was choir director for several churches. His outdoor hobby in the summer months was raising a garden. Denney attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN and graduated from Mid-America College of Mortuary Science. Denney enjoyed going out to eat, especially to Cracker Barrel. He also enjoyed watching UK basketball and football. He never met a stranger and had an undeniable sense of humor. Denny was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Denney is survived by his daughter, Lisa Gail Franklin Black (Eddie) of Somerset, KY; two grandsons, Benjamin Levi Black of Granby, CO and Matthew Riley Black of Louisville, KY; three brothers, Harrison E. Franklin (Ruth) of St. Peters, MO, Rev. Jimmy R. Franklin (Maxine) of Cleveland, TN and Glen Thomas Franklin (Audrey) of Thonotosassa, FL; two sisters, Peggy Gray of Seffner, FL and Una Jacquline Stricklind of Somerset, VA; and sisters-in-law, Jackie Franklin of Oak Ridge, TN, Geri Franklin of Cleveland, TN and Delta M. Sadler of Somerset, KY.

Preceding Denney in death were four brothers, Martin V., William A., Oscar W. and twin brother, Bennie Franklin and one sister, Janie Lucille Morelock and her husband Lee.

Visitation for Denney "Bobby" Franklin will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016 beginning at 5:00 pm at Trinity Fellowship at 119 Harvey Ave. in Somerset. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, July 28. Following visitation on Thursday, a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, also at Trinity Fellowship with Bro. Jerry Burnett, Dr. Walter Mauldin and Bro. Johnny Dunbar officiating. Interment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post #38.
