Darrell Ford

Waynard “Darrell” Ford, age 72, of Somerset, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 in Lexington, KY.

Darrell was born on December 4, 1950 to A.C. and Mattie Ford of Totz, KY.

Darrell was a very loving and compassionate man who dearly loved his family.  He was a graduate of Somerset High School and later joined the US Army and was stationed in Korea.  He also served as a firefighter while he was stationed in California.  Darrell moved to Michigan where he learned the business of operating a gas station.  After he returned to Kentucky, he became a local businessman and opened  Buy Rite Quick Oil Change.   Four or five guys could be seen at the station every morning, drinking coffee and shooting the breeze.  Darrell was known to his customers as an honest and friendly man who was generous and always willing to help out in an emergency.  He loved to tell stories and he enjoyed joking around,  Darrell enjoyed traveling and he made many trips to Maryland and Florida.

He is survived by his two sons; Darrell “Scott” (Winnie) Ford and Christopher (Courtney) Ford. Two grandchildren; Drake Ford and Carissa Ford, two brothers; Wendell (Dorothy) Ford and Kenneth Ford; and two sisters, Shirley Rodriguez and Glenna (Sam) Holloway and two special people; Susan Godby and Adam Egan.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers;  Challis Ford, Lanis Ford, and three sisters;  Willa Adams, Eula Grey  Gudal and Brella Ford.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Yaden officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Military Honors by American Legion Post 38 Honor Guard.
