Connie Neeley

May 20, 1948 — August 12, 2020

Connie Sue Huff Neeley was born on May 20th, 1948, in Somerset, daughter of the late Dewey Everett Huff and Mary Sue Luttrell Huff. She passed away on August 12, 2020, at the age of 72.

Connie was united in marriage to Wendell Wayne Neeley on October 30th, 1970, together almost fifty years. In addition to her husband, Connie is survived by their son, Wendell (Emily) Neeley II and their children, Graeme Herbert, Brogan Wyatt and Tobias Dalton Neeley of Shreveport, LA; sister Patsy (Lanny) Judd of Burkesville, KY, brothers James (Winter) Huff of Delta, KY and David (Judy) Huff of Bartow, FL; nephews Kin Judd and Josh (Sara) Judd; great-niece Hadley Judd, and great nephews Flint Judd, Andrew Judd and Ethan Judd, as well as other fond family members and friends. Besides her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Claude and Odessa Neeley.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Somerset. Connie graduated from Somerset High School, class of 1965.

She obtained her degree in Education from the University of Kentucky, and later achieved her Rank I in Education (30 hours above a Masters degree). Connie taught for 30 years, including one year at Woodford County High School, five years at Tates Creek High School (Fayette County), and the remainder at Somerset High School, teaching mathematics, physical science and chemistry. She also served as a soccer coach and cheerleading coach at Somerset High School.

Connie had a passion for helping students to succeed and be well rounded members of the community. Connie was a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Kentucky Science Teachers Association (treasurer). Following retirement, she was active with the Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association and the Middle Cumberland Retired Teachers Association (treasurer). Connie was a licensed realtor in the Somerset Community, serving as an agent with Walton Realty and Godby Realty and Auction Company. She was a member of the Somerset-Lake Cumberland Association of Realtors. An avid and knowledgeable bird watcher, she combined this interest with her love of travel. She and her husband Wendell enjoyed traveling in America and abroad, including several birding excursions. An African safari was a highlight of her travels, coming face to face with a leopard. Connie was also a member of two hiking clubs, Loons Hikers and Hillside Hikers, further enjoying flora and fauna closer to home. Connie was active in her community, including membership in the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association, the “Not So Pampered Chefs” Club, and the “Teaching Ourselves” Homemakers group.

Connie, with her husband Wendell, remodeled several homes and gardens to great effect.  Her current residence includes a beautiful flower and vegetable garden, as well as displays of her extensive dish collection. Connie was a loyal friend to all. She led a productive and helpful life to all in her orbit, both human and canine (she is greatly missed by dogs Zeus and Lucky).
