Carl Edward Godby, age 89, of Somerset, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Carl was born on August 17, 1927, in Somerset, son of the late Charles and Katie Boone Godby. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Carl was a homebuilder, who had credit of building 53 homes in the Somerset area. He was a retired produce manager for Kroger. Carl was a Deacon Emeritus of the First Christian Church of Somerset.
He is survived by his daughters, Janet Godby Gooch (Carl), of Stanford, and Trudy Jo Underhill, of Somerset; his half-brother, John Godby, of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Amanda Underhill, of Lexington, and Brandi Underhill, of Destin, Florida; and his great-grandchild, Rylan Davis, of Destin, Florida.
Along with his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Betty Jo Taylor Godby, who passed away in 2015; his brothers, Charles "Chuck" Godby, Jerry Godby and Jackie Godby, who died in infancy; and his sisters, Charlotte Cox, Margie Ross and Sue Harper.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017, after 10:00 a.m., in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company.
A Celebration of the Life of Carl Edward Godby will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company, with Rev. Joe Altman officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the First Christian Church of Somerset.
