Bessie Poynter, age 81, of Somerset, departed this life on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
She was born on August 15th, 1934 in Bloss, KY to the late Lando and Janie Bea Bullock. She was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, and grandmother who also helped raise many of the neighborhood kids.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Johnnie Walker Poynter whom she married on December 1, 1953 in Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Vicki (and Bill) Edwards of Somerset; a brother, Russell Bullock of Loveland, OH; a sister, Betty Bullock of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Billie Edwards Jr. and Kathleen (and Cody) Dixon, both of Somerset.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester, Luster, Monroe, Billy, Ben, and Glen Bullock; and a sister, Janet McClure.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral services will follow the visitation on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse McCoy officiating. Interment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family request expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Dr., Somerset, KY 42503.
