Amy Polston

November 5, 1921 — May 17, 2017

Amy Gertrude McGowan Polston, born November 5, 1921, left this earth to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Sister Gertrude was the daughter of the late Grover and Ella Smith McGowan. She was the wife of Edsel Polston, whom she married in 1940. She worked for 27 years as a seamstress at The Fair Store in Somerset. Sister Polston professed her faith in Christ at the age of 14 and took membership at Separate Baptist Church. She was a faithful member who served various positions at the church, including the church clerk for 53 years, treasurer until she felt it was time for someone to take it over, and Sunday school teacher for the women's class for many, many years.

She is survived by one daughter, Oreda (Arlin) Harris; one granddaughter, Jill (and Doug) Price; grandson-in-law, Mark McKinley; two great grandchildren whom she adored, Jessica and Tyler Price; one brother, Grover Leon (and Christine) McGowan of Plainfield, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Richard (and Jane) Polston of Greenfield, Ind. She is leaving behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Polston; one granddaughter, Debra McKinley, to breast cancer in 2002 at the age of 31; her brothers and sisters, Tina (and Hebrotis) Stephens, Alverta (and Virgil) Polston, Flonnie (and Arvel) Polston, Ezra (and Lena) McGowan, Elsie (and Marley) Wiggington, Mary (and Elza) Polston, Beatrice (and Amos) Stephens, Ova (and Verda) McGowan, Gracie (and Joe) Zimmerman, Marvin (and Irene) McGowan, infant brother, Falus McGowan; three brother-in-laws and five sister-in-laws .

Visitation will take place Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 19, 2017 with Bro. Mark Polston, Bro. Josh Polston, Bro. Matthew Dalton and Bro. Jerry Ridge officiating at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Sister Gertrude will be buried in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Greg McGowan, Ronnie Zimmerman, Marshall Stephens, Tyler Price, Jeff Minton, Kendall Polston and John Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon McGowan, Herbert McGowan, Delbert McGowan, Albert Polston, Falus Polston, Lonzo Wiggington, Dallus Wiggington, Donald Wiggington and Richard Polston.

In lieu of flowers, it has been requested that financial gifts to Hospice of Somerset or Hospice of Richmond be made.
