Sylvia Johnson

October 28, 1924 — February 26, 2019

On February 26, 2019, Ilene “Sylvia” Johnson of Nancy, Kentucky departed on a trip she had been planning most of her life.  She stepped onto the shore of heaven and was greeted by friends and family who had arrived before.  She finally witnessed the great beauty of a place she so often talked about.  If she could send a postcard home, it would surely say “wish you were here.”

Even though her family will miss her beyond words, they rejoice in the fact that she has seen the face of Jesus and has been reunited with Amos, her beloved husband of 50 years, who had arrived there in 1994.

Sylvia was a quiet woman who dearly loved her family and friends.   A kind and gentle southern lady who wanted everyone to feel welcome in her home and allowed no visitor to leave hungry.  She was honest and upright in her dealings with others, and a precious beloved mother and grandmother. She was steadfast in her faith and her love for the Lord.  She was a longtime member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Johnson; her parents, Georgie Alvin and Sarah Ann Wilson;  brothers, Woodrow Wilson and Raymond Wilson; a sister, Neetie Tucker. These all lived to be in their 90’s. There was a brother Marty Wilson and a sister, Elsie Wilson, that died in childhood.

She is survived by one son, Allen (Donna) Johnson of Richmond; three daughters, Sharlene (Jerry) McLin of Nancy, Teresa (Todd) New of Berea, Sherry (Michael) Nichols of Leesburg,Ga, Eight grandchildren, Lynessa (Shawn) Cummings, Greg (Kathy) Johnson, Roderick McLin, Marisa McLin, Emily (Brian) Bowling, Brentley (Karresha) New, Anthony McMullen, Sarah McMullen. Eleven great grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan and Logan Johnson, Madeline Cannon and Tess McLin, Hannah and Courtney Cummings, Hadley and Landry Bowling, and Logan McMullen.
