Louie Dills Jr.

Louie G. Dills Jr., passed away among family on Saturday April 6, 2019 at 10:42pm at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. He died as a result of complications associated with congestive heart failure.
He was born on September 12, 1938 in Somerset, KY to his parents, Louie Gaston Dills and Mary Ann Crawford Dills.
Early life for Louie was spent living with family in both Somerset and Tompkinsville, KY. He loved being with and caring for his younger brother James Carroll Dills.

Louie was a very social and loving man. During his years at Somerset High School he was a member of the Science Club and the local Boy Scout Troop 79.  After graduation, Louie joined the United States Air Force on June 6, 1961. He served at Keesler AFB Biloxi, MS where he trained in radar, communications, and avionics. He was honorably discharged on July 12, 1968 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Before service he met Doris Anna Isaacs (also of Somerset, Ky) who was babysitting at the next-door neighbor’s house. On June 22, 1962 they were married. Their first child Karen Louise Dills was born at Keesler AFB Hospital on July 21, 1965.
After service, the Dills family moved to Lexington, KY where Louie gained employment with the Federal Aviation Administration at Bluegrass Airport.

He continued to work in radar, communications, and avionics until his retirement in June of 2002.
Louie and Doris had their second child Phillip Scott Dills on November 23, 1978. Louie, Karen and Scott spent countless hours together at the Bluegrass Airport control tower, where they shared their love of aviation.
Joining the Boy Scouts of America was a life-changing event for Louie. As a young man he accumulated many accolades and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. As an adult, he later served as scoutmaster of Troop 220, assistant scoutmaster of Troop 5, and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 98, and then finally became district commissioner of the Thoroughbred District in Lexington, KY. He also participated in Wood-Badge.
Though he never achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Louie gave his life to the Boy Scout Organization. He spent many years molding and shaping boys into young men. His time with the Boy Scouts included countless hours of volunteer work, helping to bolster the health and longevity of central Kentucky communities. Louie was a Boy Scout till the day he died.

Louie is preceded in death by his mother Mary Ann Crawford Dills, his father Louie Gaston Dills, and his brother James Carrol Dills.

He is survived by his wife Doris Anna Dills of Lexington, KY, daughter Karen Louise Crumley (and husband Robert) of Knoxville, TN and Phillip Scott Dills of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by his oldest grandchild Emily Tyler Knopf (and husband John), and his great-grandchild Evalyn Mila Isabelle Knopf of Knoxville, TN, and his second-oldest grandchild Amanda Nicole Wamack of Knoxville, TN.
Louie was a great husband and a father. His family loved him very much and he will be missed.

Memorial services will take place 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory with Bro. Wayne Noble officiating. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Public visitation begins at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Full Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post #38

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop # 79, In care of First Christian Church, 1115 Hwy 39, Somerset, Kentucky 42503
