Lavene Sayers

Lavene D. Sayers, age 81, departed her earthly home the morning of June 18, 2019 at Cumberland County Hospital with her family by her side.

Lavene was born on March 13, 1938 in Nancy, KY to the late Columbus and Martha Dick.  She was united in marriage to Ray J. Sayers on May 13, 1959 in Jellico, TN.  They were married for 60 blissful years.  She graduated from Nancy High School in 1959 and retired from the Pulaski County School System.  She enjoyed working with the kindergarten children at Nancy Elementary School.  Becoming a Christian at an early age, she continued to have an unwavering faith in God.  She was a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church in Ingle.

She was known to be a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

A consummate mother and homemaker, Lavene was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.  Even in failing health, there was always prepared food for family and visitors, all were welcome.  Birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas were special days to share love of the family with relatives.

She is survived by her husband, Ray J. Sayers; her children, Freddie Ray (and Debbie) Sayers of Russell Springs, Sara Jane (and Aaron) Wooden of Louisville and David Lee (and Angela) Sayers of Nancy, KY; MaMa Lavene’s precious grandchildren, Mackenzie (and Brandon)  Minton, Tyler Sayers, Jebediah Sayers and Raylee Sayers; two  precious great-grandchildren, Branson and Bryson Minton; and nieces and nephews, Rodney (and JoAnn) Dick, Scott (and Keawanna) Garrison, Marcus Dick, Lonnie Sweet, Johnny Sweet, Terry Sweet and Janet Stricklin.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Delmer Glenn Dick; one sister, Farlene Sweet; special sister-in-law, Lucille Sayers (and Delmer) Vanhoosier; nieces and nephews, Saundra Louise Simpson, Melody McPherson, Ronnie Sweet and Jerry Sweet.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 10:00am until 1:00pm EST at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00pm EST at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Patrick Patterson officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
