Gale Conder

Alvin Gale Conder passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center surrounded by his family.

Gale was born in Bradfordsville, Kentucky on October 4, 1935, the son of Samuel and Lois Conder. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fayrene Hourigan Conder, sisters, Norma Phillips, Ruth McKeeby, Nina Barger, Pam Young, and his brother Carrol Conder. He is survived his son, Terry Gale Conder, his daughter, Clara Conder Allison, his grandchildren, Anne Claire Conder, Aaron Gale Conder, and Jasper Fielding Allison, and his siblings, Dale Conder, Rita Dean, and Johnny Conder. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Douglas Allison and his daughter-in-law and lov

ing care giver, Dawn Conder.

When Gale and Fayrene married in 1955, he worked for the GE factory in Louisville, the Handmacher-Vogel sewing factory in Louisville and the Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Lebanon, Kentucky. He moved his family from Lebanon to Somerset, Kentucky in 1965 for a job with the Phillips 66 Petroleum Company. He was a business owner in Somerset from 1966 to 2008. While in Somerset, Gale and Fayrene owned two Standard Oil Service Stations for which he won the National Chevron Island Award for the best decorated and cleanest service station in America. He also owned a Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, Conder’s Automobile Repair Center, and Conder Tire & Service Center, from which he retired in 2008. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Somerset. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce during the 1970’s and the 1980’s. He served on the board of small Business Advisory Committee for the Citizen’s Bank, and he was a member of the Somerset Masonic Lodge. Gale was a local employer of over 100 members of his beloved community for over 50 years.

Gale Conder was a kind and loving man who devoted his entire life to his family, his employees, and his community. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the First Christian Church in Somerset, KY.

His funeral service will follow on Saturday at 5:00pm at the First Christian Church with Bro. David Greene and Bro. Steve Lecher officiating.

The family will hold a private entombment at Lakeside Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
