Eltie Tarter

Eltie Mary Tarter, age 86, of Nancy, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

She was born on December 16, 1931, to the late Ira and Gladys Floyd Muse. She grew up on their farm alongside her eight brothers and sisters. She graduated from Nancy High School in 1949 and afterwards attended Bible college.

She married her high school sweetheart, Lowell L. Tarter, in 1951. Shortly thereafter, they bought the farm in Naomi (now Nancy), that became their lifelong home. Eltie loved the country life, being outdoors, gardening, and caring for the animals. She was a seamstress for Palm Beach for 44 years and retired in 1994. She was a faithful servant and member at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Nancy, where she was formerly a primary age Sunday School Teacher.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Lowell L. Tarter of Nancy, a sister, Christa Muse Cheek of St. Petersburg, FL; a brother-in-law, J.C. Tarter, sisters-in-law, Mary Muse, Vickie (and Edward) Keeney, Ann Tarter, and Helen Norfleet. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Eltie. On the Muse side; Sandra (and Wendell) Denney, Becky (and Ernest) DeBord, Michael (and Jackie) Muse, Annette (and Bob) Howard, Mary Alice (and Dan) Hillman, Beth (and Dan) Datillo, Esther Henderson, Robin Duncan, Amos Muse, Jr., Renee Muse, Jean Reindl, Patty Muse, Teresa (and Dan) Johnson, Ken (and Layne) Cheek, David (and Nancy) Cheek, Joshua (and Angie) Muse, and Melissa (and Zack) Bales. On the Tarter side; Bruce (and Cindy) Tarter, Sherry (and Mike) Lightner, Pam (and Mike) Williams, Don (and Debbie) Tarter, Lisa Norfleet, Trena (and Randy) Schultz, Jamie (and Tom) Greene, and Julie Osmond. Eltie is also survived by many extended family members and friends, including special friends considered as family, Steven and Jennifer Johnson, and Debbie and Mike Farler.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Connie Tarter, two sisters, Norma Muse and Becky Langford, five brothers, Irvin Muse, Tinsley Muse, Amos Muse, Dwain Muse, and Gladstone Muse.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and also on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 9:00am until 11:00am at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Eltie Mary’s funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Caldwell, Bro. Larry Harris, and Bro. Jimmy York officiating.  Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Edward Keeney, Steven Johnson, Michael Flynn, Mike Farler, Kenny Cheek, and Randy Schultz.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Gideons for Bible placement.
