Dennis Halcomb

January 15, 1930 — August 29, 2019

Mr. Dennis Halcomb departed this life on Monday, August 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Laurel Heights Nursing Home following complications from a stroke.

He was born on January 15, 1930 in Livingston, KY to John Sherman and Mintie Browning Halcomb. He was a retired Superintendent for Kentucky Stone Company Shopville Plant which he opened in 1978. He attended Walnut Grove Church of Christ and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Dennis served with U.S. Army 14th Engineer Combat Battalion in the Korean War 1950-1954. He was awarded the Korean Service medal with two bronze stars, The United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal for his honorable service. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon City Council eight years. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, his dog and his neighbors. He loved raising a large garden to share with his friends and neighbors. Dennis was an avid CB Radio enthusiast, known as the “Dog Catcher”. He enjoyed buying and trading motorcycle with his son. He was the co-owner with his wife Bonnie of the Downtown Café, Twice as Nice Dress Shop and operated the Greyhound Bus Station in Mt. Vernon. He loved all his extended family and was known as Pap by many.

Mr. Dennis is survived by two children: Lana Halcomb Crawford and Dennis “Denny” Halcomb II (Monica). He was the proud Papaw to four grandchildren: Zachary Crawford of Charleston, SC, Tiffany Crawford, Audrey Halcomb and Grant Halcomb all of Somerset. One Brother Floyd Halcomb of Somerset, One Brother-in-Law Zade McClure of Mt. Vernon; Sister-in-Law Bernice Halcomb of Danville, Sister-in-Law Sarah Edna Halcomb of Hamilton, OH; Sister-in-Law Jannie Sowder of Richmond, KY., and a host of nieces and nephews. He is survived by one brother Floyd Halcomb of Somerset, Brother-in-Law Zade McClure of Mt. Vernon, KY; Sister-in-Laws Bernice Halcomb of Danville, Sarah Edna Halcomb of Hamilton, OH; Jannie Sowder of Richmond, KY.

In addition to his parents He was preceded in death by his wife Bon Ami Issacs Halcomb, son-in-law James Patrick Crawford, brothers Chester, Thurston, and Willie Halcomb. His sisters Viola Halcomb Griffen and Maude Halcomb Jones.

Pallbearers will be: Zachary Crawford, Grant Halcomb, Scott Trotter, Buddy Jones, Preston Sowder,
Jeff Hunt, Quinton Mc Ginnis, Shawn Gilliam. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Garlin Dotson, Sammy Ford, Mike Crawford, Bob Bolton, Floyd Halcomb, and Robin Halcomb.

Family will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Marcus Reppert officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
