Noel Dodson

March 8, 1940 — May 18, 2020

Bro. Marcus “Noel” Dodson, age 80, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
Noel was born on March 8, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Lewis and Lillian Ferguson Dodson. After his mother’s untimely passing, his father remarried a Pulaski County native and the family moved to Pulaski County. Noel started attending Pleasant View Baptist Church, in Shopville, and through the church’s ministry he came to faith and accepted the call to preach. Noel was licensed and ordained through Pleasant View Church. He met Della Taylor, who was an altoist in a singing trio, while singing and preaching at the same event. Noel married Della on May 7, 1965, in Somerset, and she became known as the consummate pastor’s wife. The couple was blessed by two children being born to their union.
Noel served for several years as a bi-vocational pastor. He furthered his education by graduating from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in 1978, and later with a B.A. He later enhanced his education through classes at Cumberland College, University of Kentucky and Southern Seminary. He was former pastor to First Baptist Church in Mt. Victory (1965-1969), Okalona Baptist Church (1969-1980), Freedom Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon (1980-1983), the First Baptist Church in McKee (1983-1995), Eubank Baptist Church (1995-2002) and Poplar Springs Baptist Church (2002-2011). After retiring from full time church pastoring, Noel was kept busy as an interim pastor and as Director of Missions for the Casey County Baptist Association. Throughout his ministry, Noel was very committed to missions. He served in many international settings, including Kenya, Namibia and Brazil. He was an active member of High Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Della; his beloved children, Alan (and Amy) Dodson, of Somerset, and Lillian (and Billy) Norris, of Somerset; the grandchildren he adored, Allison (and Ross) Buskey, of Lexington, Grant Norris, Allistair Dodson and Andrew Dodson, all of Somerset; his brother, Eldon Dodson, of Somerset; sisters, Ruth Stogsdill, of Missouri, Kathern Dodson, of Somerset, Jeanie Dodson, of California, and Elaine Mincey, of Somerset. He is also survived by his in-laws, Brenda Taylor, Anna McKee, Leonard (and Arlene) Taylor, Jeanie (and Billy) Taylor, Janice Dodson and Sandy Dodson; and many nieces and nephews, all who have loved him dearly.
Preceding Noel in death are his parents; his brothers, Albert Dodson, Clarence Dodson, Paul Dodson and Phillip Dodson; his father and mother in-law, Delbert and Carrie Taylor; in-laws Wanda (and Lloyd) Dykes, Freddie (and Mary) Taylor, Forrest Taylor, Mildred Taylor, Laura (and Eugene) Tucker, Glen McKee and Harold Taylor.
