Elva Burton

Elva Violet Burton, age 88, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab.

Elva was born on February 7, 1932 in Somerset, KY to the late Lunar Merrick and Mary Jones Merrick.  She was a lifetime member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.  Elva loved quilting, cooking, sewing, gardening, canning and freezing.

She is survived by her children, Connie Sue (and Jonathon) Jones of Salvisa, KY, Carol (and Jim) Strack of Cape Coral, FL, Aaron “Stacy” (and Vanessa) Burton of Russell Springs, KY, Bob (and Dianna) Sexton of Somerset and Calvin Sexton of Somerset; two sisters, Elizabeth (and Albert) Burton of Somerset and Charlotte Wheeldon of Somerset; one sister-in-law, Nancy Merrick of Somerset; eleven grandchildren, Michelle (and Rodney) Luttrell, Misty (and Andy) Richmond, Dwain (and Elizabeth) Sexton, Amanda (and Scott) Burdine, Tyler (and Amanda) Sexton, Casey Jones, David (and Kotey) Jones, Justin (and Cassandra) Jones, Christian Strack, Jay Burton and Sara (and Derek) Iseminger; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family from Oak Hill Baptist Church, who loved her dearly.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron S. Burton, who preceded her on September 9, 2006; four brothers, Delno Merrick, Odell Merrick, Garvel Merrick and Lunar Merrick Jr.; four sisters, Ruth Daulton, Jewel Jones, Opal Tarter and Edith Pierce.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 5:30pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Phelps and Bro. Harold Brown officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Christian Strack, Casey Jones, David Jones, Justin Jones, Jay Burton, Tyler Sexton, Dwain Sexton and Rodney Luttrell.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Beulah Sanders, Sandy Price, Carol Papia and Somerset Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care given to Elva.
